Satellite • Terrain • Custom Data — all in one platform
Multiple approaches. One platform.
Every Way to Zone a Field
Visualized.
Eight zone approaches built into TerraZoner — from simple satellite productivity zones to powerful multi-layer matrices. All included in every plan.
Multi-Year NDVI
The tried-and-tested multi-year NDVI composite that accurately depicts historical productivity zones. Works on every field — the starting point for most variable rate programs.
Topo-Refined
Breaks the lowest-producing NDVI zone into wetter and drier areas, eliminating the biggest weakness of standard NDVI zones on rolling landscapes.
NDVI-Topo Matrix
Up to 9 zones where each represents a unique combination of high/med/low productivity and wet/balanced/dry terrain class. Tells you not just how a zone produces — but why.
Pure Topography
Zones based exclusively on topography and wetness potential, delineating hills, ridges, slopes, and low-lying regions. Ideal for VR seeding, new fields, or fields with no crop history.
Custom Layer Zones
Import a custom layer such as EC or pH in point shapefile format and generate zones directly from it. Any field measurement that comes in points works.
Custom Matrix Zones
Combine an imported custom layer with either wetness potential or NDVI productivity in a cross-classification zone matrix. E.g. Productivity × EC.
3-3-3 Matrix Zones
A powerful zone matrix where each zone carries three separate attributes — for example, wetness, productivity, and EC — creating highly differentiated management zones.
Weighted Composite
Combine any two layers — including an imported custom data layer — into a single weighted composite with 2–10 zones. Set the influence of each layer to dial in the result.
All eight zone approaches are included in every TerraZoner plan — no add-ons, no upgrades required.

Four Zone Approaches.
Plus Custom Data Import.
From satellite productivity zones to terrain classification — plus import EC, pH, yield, or any point shapefile data to zone with any data source or combine layers in powerful matrices and composites.
Multi-year peak-biomass NDVI composites that reveal consistent productivity patterns across your fields. For every operation, this is the smartest starting point. Used on ~75% of variable rate acres — flat or rolling.
- Sentinel-2 satellite data from 2015 to present, automatically filtered for peak biomass
- Generate 2 to 6 zone maps calibrated to your field's variability range
- Export production-ready shapefiles compatible with any VRT platform
- The highest-ROI foundation for any variable rate program
For many fields, this is all you need. Multi-year satellite zones are the highest-ROI starting point for any variable rate program — and they work on every field, flat or rolling.
Takes your multi-year zones and reclassifies the lowest-producing zone using terrain intelligence. Zone 1 gets split into sub-zones: "wet-limited", "dry-limited", and "other-limited" — because those hilltops and depressions are not the same problem.
- Proprietary wetness index combining terrain position with water flow modeling
- Splits Zone 1 into 2-3 sub-zones; remaining zones renumber automatically
- Fetch LiDAR terrain data directly, or upload your own RTK survey data
- Catches depressions within hills and complex landscapes other algorithms miss
This is the feature that makes TerraZoner different. Your worst zone is hiding two opposite problems — terrain refinement splits them apart so each gets the prescription it actually needs.
Full 3x3 productivity-by-wetness classification. Every pixel gets two labels: a productivity class (lower, average, higher) and a wetness class (wetter, balanced, drier). Creates up to 9 zone classes — telling you not just how a zone produces, but why. Even if you're not writing VRT prescriptions from this, the dual-layer classification is invaluable for scouting, understanding yield maps, reviewing crop history, and explaining the "why" behind field performance.
- Up to 9 prescribable zone classes like "wetter-lower producing" or "drier-higher producing"
- Multiple wetness classification methods for different landscape types
- Smart merge logic with user-selectable priority: water-driven or production-driven
- Enterprise-grade zone intelligence at a flat-rate price — no per-acre fees
Every zone tells you not just how it produces, but why. Even if you prescribe from simpler zone maps, the dual-layer classification is the map most users keep coming back to for scouting and understanding yield patterns.
No satellite data. No yield history needed. Pure Terrain Zones creates zones from terrain alone — mapping where water will be scarce or excessive based purely on landscape position. Especially powerful for variable rate seeding, where plant populations should follow the terrain.
- LiDAR elevation data auto-downloaded for US and expanding Canadian coverage
- Identifies ridges, slopes, flats, and depressions using TPI and wetness potential analysis
- Upload your own RTK survey or drone LiDAR data where public data isn't available
- Interactive 3D terrain visualization to validate zones against the real landscape
Hilltops, mid-slopes, and depressions each need different plant populations. Pure Terrain Zones maps those landscape positions from day one — no yield history required.
Bring Your Own Data — Any Point Shapefile
Import any point-based field data — EC, pH, single-year yield, compaction, GPR, or any other measurement in point shapefile format. TerraZoner interpolates and classifies your data into zones, then lets you use it standalone or combine it with satellite and terrain layers in a matrix or weighted composite.
Standalone Custom Zones
Generate zones directly from a single custom data layer. Simple EC zones, pH zones, or single-year yield zones — classified and exported as a shapefile.
Matrix Combinations
Incorporate custom data into a cross-classification matrix with any other layer. E.g. Productivity × EC, or Productivity × pH × Wetness Potential — each unique combination becomes its own zone class.
Weighted Composites
Blend any two layers into a single weighted composite zone map. Set the weight of each layer to control how much influence each has on the final result. E.g. 60% Layer 1 + 40% Layer 2.
Most fields don't need every approach. TerraZoner lets you choose the right approach for each field — satellite zones for established fields, terrain refinement where topography matters, pure terrain zones for new fields, or custom data zones when you have EC, pH, or yield data. Start simple, add precision where the data and landscape demand it.
All zone approaches & custom data import included. Unlimited fields. One flat annual rate.
I've been a precision ag consultant since 2008. I tried every zone platform I could find — most were inflexible, and the results rarely matched what I knew about the field. So I'd build zones manually in GIS software: downloading imagery, processing rasters, managing projections and formats, classifying by hand. Good results, but hours per field. There's an enormous amount of satellite and terrain data available — but turning it into actionable zone maps has always been absurdly difficult. The NDVI limitation of grouping droughty hilltops with waterlogged depressions into the same zone bugged me for years; it took several years of testing different terrain approaches before I cracked it. TerraZoner™ is the result: the same quality zones I used to spend hours producing manually, generated in minutes — from multi-year satellite to topo-refined to a full 3×3 dual-layer matrix to pure terrain zones. Everything I build comes from the same goal: make it easier to get real value from the data we have access to.
No venture capital. No sales team. Just the same quality zones that used to require hours of manual GIS work — now generated in minutes, at a flat rate.
